Both a history of the cathedral itself, one of Ireland's most important and imposing historic 19th century cathedrals, and the story of the painstaking restoration of the cathedral following a devastating fire in 2009. The cathedral was started in 1840, but work was suspended from 1846 to 1853, and the cathedral was opened in 1856. 

The cathedral containing and much historic artwork and architecture, as well as Harry Clarke stained glass windows, and was gutted by fire on Christmas Day 2009. This book was issued at the re-opening of the cathedral, and contains contributions from all those involved in the restoration - architects, planners, artists, clergy, the people of Longford, as well as being a full history of the original building of the cathedral.
